WARM UP THE CITY

Danbury

Dear Friend,

Warm Up the City – Danbury, presented by Speak Life Foundation, is an annual community
outreach event entering its fourth year in the City of Danbury. Through partnerships with various
organizations and individuals around the city, we are able to collect warm clothing and hygienic
items throughout the year, and then distribute those items to those in need during the event.
The birth of this event came about one night when Cornieta A. Whitfield awoke from a dream in
the middle of the night. In the dream, she was passing by a group of homeless individuals
suffering from a cold wintry night and did nothing about it. She awoke in the morning with this
newfound ache in her heart and immediately began to brainstorm with her husband to see what
they could do to help. With a few phone calls, some advice from local charities, and the help of
their friends, they received a donation of 100 bags from Primark and filled them with socks,
gloves, hats, and scarves donated from the community, through both direct and monetary
contributions.

Because of people like you, Warm Up the City – Danbury has been able to help serve roughly 300 low-income and homeless families over the past three years. This year, we would like to invite you to our Warm Up the City – Danbury informational session. The event will be held on Tuesday, June 11th at 6:00-7:00pm at the Danbury Police Station, 375 Main Street, Danbury,
CT. If you cannot attend the event but would still like to donate, please visit www.theriverdanbury.org/warmupthecity and denote “Warm Up the City.” We also welcome warm wear donations such as socks, gloves, hats, scarves, jackets and hygiene items for children & adults, to The River Church, 234 Main Street, Danbury, CT on Sundays from 3-5pm.
